High schools should allow students to study the courses that students want to study

High school is a place where students continue their education after elementary school. The most important purpose of high schools is to expand knowledge of subjects already studied, including the study of literature, foreign languages, sciences, mathematics, social studies, and other subjects and these subjects are to prepare students as future citizens for the country. Some of these subjects are really interesting as history or literature for instance, but others such as maths, physics or chemistry are difficult for students. Although some people agree with the statement that high schools should not allow students to study the courses that students want to study, others believe that high school students should be allowed to choose the courses they really want.

1Opponents say that students sometimes do not know what they want to be in the future; that is why, all the courses should be taken. It means that they have to learn all subject for few years to have a possibility to choose some of them and to decide what is the subject that students liked most. Besides, opponents claim that students need to have general knowledge about the world. In other words, it is good to know at least some basic things about everything.

It’s true that allowing students to study courses that students want are beneficial for them, but people can not deny that students do not  know much of the world themselves and the teachers are those who can teach students about it.

2Others strongly believe that students' intrinsic motivation is profoundly boosted.  Most students select the course based on their interests and what they consider necessary to learn. It means that if students study something that is interesting for them, they would be more concentrate in class and would like to learn more for the subject and; in this way, students would develop themselves easier. Otherwise, when someone forces students to learn something that they do not find so much fascinating or is difficult for students to understand, students will not put much effort into it. In this way, students can give up studying at all and this is not very nice. 3Moreover, students invest their time more on perfecting their talented skill. For instance, if students know that they really like mathematics, they would maybe be professional engineers, and that is good because students would know what they are going to be in the future since they are in highschool.

In conclusion, studetns should be totally free to choose the courses they want to study, so that students would have motivation and put effort on subjects to learn as much as they can. On the contrary, if students study courses which they do not want to, students would not pay attention to the classes and maybe they would fail the course.
